The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD), in partnership with the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation, will host the 2nd Annual Girls Empowerment Camp (GEC) in March, 2018.

The program is free and is open to girls ages 14-18. Participants get hands-on orientation and training with actual firefighting tools and equipment as well as classroom instruction. This program is designed to inspire those interested in a career in the public safety by focusing their efforts on future success and engaging them in the SDFD recruitment and mentoring process. The GEC is held at the SDFD Training Center and is staffed by active duty SDFD female firefighters and cadets.

We believe that empowering and mentoring our City’s youth is one key to success in gender equity and work force diversity.
