Pre-Apprenticeship EMT Academy Details
The Cal-JAC Pre-Apprenticeship EMT Academy is provided through a generous grant from the San Diego Workforce Partnership to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation, and is hosted in partnership with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
ACADEMY SCHEDULE

DATES:
Classes begin July 20, 2026
SCHEDULE:
Prerequisite CPR Class
July 11th – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
In-person classes at the SDFD Training Center
July 20, 2026 – December 5, 2026
Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
ACADEMY REQUIREMENTS
Documents needed to apply:
- Completed application for admission
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- (Optional) Proof of financial status*
*Proof of financial status is not required; however, priority will be given to individuals with demonstrated financial need.
Required prior to official admission:
- Attend mandatory orientation
- Pass the FCTC Written Test
- At least 18 years old or older on or before July 20, 2026
- Pass a Department of Justice background check
- Pass a drug screening
- Proof of up-to-date vaccinations. Please see the FAQ page linked here and below below for the full list.
- Passed a CPAT within 6 months of application submission or complete an Academy Physical Ability Review through Cal-JAC
APPLICATION PROCESS
- Applications will be accepted through May 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM
- Mandatory in-person FCTC Written Test will be held the week of June 1, 2026
- Mandatory online orientation will be held the evening of June 10, 2026
- Academy entrance interviews and physical ability review will be held in-person June 16-17, 2026
- Mandatory in-person CPR Class will be held on July 11, 2026
Applications must be received by May 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
