New Lifeguard Rescue Equipment Put Into Service
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Linda Polly, San Diego Fire-Rescue Lifeguards have received a new rescue UTV and personal watercraft (Jet Ski) to enhance emergency response along our coastline.
The equipment was delivered and immediately placed into service at La Jolla Shores Beach, ready to assist lifeguards responding to medical emergencies, water rescues, and critical incidents. These lifesaving resources will improve response times, expand rescue capabilities, and help protect the millions of residents and visitors who enjoy San Diego’s beaches each year.
This is a powerful example of how philanthropy can have an immediate and lasting impact on public safety.
San Diego River Conservancy Grant Supports Swiftwater/Flood Rescue Team
Thanks to funding from the San Diego River Conservancy, the Foundation recently delivered additional Demaree Inflatable Boats (DIBs) and specialized personal protective equipment (PPE) to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department’s Swiftwater/Flood Rescue Team.
These critical resources enhance the team’s ability to safely and effectively respond to water emergencies while also supporting year-round river cleanup efforts that protect public safety and the environment.
This investment strengthens the Department’s specialized rescue capabilities, ensuring our lifeguards have the equipment they need when every second counts.
Station 16 Dorm Remodel Update
Construction continues on the dorm remodel at Fire Station 16, and we’re pleased to report that the project remains on schedule and is currently expected to come in slightly under budget.
Any remaining funds will be directed toward the next phase, the kitchen remodel, allowing donor support to have an even greater impact on firefighter wellness. These improvements provide firefighters with comfortable, functional living spaces that support rest, recovery, and readiness during their 24-hour shifts.
